Though Tomas' conscience forbade the taking of human life, he joined the Contra rebels in Nicaragua against his will.  The ensuing fear, hunger, isolation, and grief overwhelmed him. Rejecting God and promises made to Him during the panic of battle opened the door of bondage to alcohol, which brought his family and his whole life to despair.  Then visitors brought warmth of the gospel to Waslala, and it began to melt the coldness of his heart.  Tomas was led to forgiveness at the cross. A true story.
