Tom Rainse, a young game warden, had two prized possessions: his pinto pony and Smoky, the dog with a bloodhound's "nose for trouble." Tom's pinto pony was stolen, so he had Smoky lead him to where it was. Tom's fellow game warden, Buck Brunt, thought the motive behind the theft was poaching. Tom was convinced it was something bigger, but Smoky's nose is what finally led them to the answer.
